What is MissAdventure & How Does It Work?

MissAdventure Mission: To empower girls through adventure, action sports & the outdoors & instil them with a deep sense of self-worth beyond their appearance.

How?

We design active, adventure workshops that introduce girls to new activities, be it rock climbing, surfing, skating, hiking etc so that they can see first hand how strong and capable they are.

We then pair these lessons and activities with an aligned theme (For Circus Sports it’s ‘Support & Lifting Each Other Up) as a conduit to big, wholehearted conversations. We call these debriefs “Fireside Chats” (think the openness, relaxed, sharing vibe of a campfire) and explore issues around self-worth, healthy body image, mental health, resilience, positive relationships etc with the kids. Issues that matter to her now and will matter even more as she begins to weather the storm of adolescence.

Aside from connecting with their daughters, parents are invited to partake in our ‘How to Raise Brave Girls’ forum where we discuss strategies to raise happy, resilient and balanced girls in an ever-changing, increasingly superficial world.

These discussions and curriculums are designed and facilitated by child psychologists, therapists, teachers, parents and experts. Our adventures are operated by qualified coaches and organisations.

Why?

• Kids these days spend less time outside than maximum security prisoners

• Girls as young as 8 are worried about having the 'perfect' body

• Half of mental illness begins before the age of 14

We believe #AdventureIsTheAnswer

Parents Chat Covers: The best way to support your daughter through adolescence, how to foster and support her self esteem, practical tips and helpful insights into her stage of development.

MissAdventure Self Defence SOLD OUT

Introduce your MissAdventurer (open to 7 - 14 year old girls) to some basics in self defense and the joy of martial arts, specifically boxing.

While some feel nervous about getting kids involved in 'fighting sports' - don't be deterred, martial arts are awesome adventures that teach self defence, confidence, respect and discipline to name a few and spark great conversations. Kids will leave feeling fierce but grounded.

I chose this adventure as I (Caroline) have been boxing for years and it's one of my favourite activities - a great positive outlet that has taught me so much.

For this MissAdventure Morning, the girls will spend part of their time learning basic boxing punches with proper technique, part of their time in a fitness workout (no contact, just with gloves and pads) and part of her time participating in the 'campfire side chat' element key to all MissAdventure Mornings.

The conversation for this session will revolve around 'Positive Peer Relationships’

Parents are invited to partake in their own facilitated conversations around 'How to Raise Brave Girls’ focusing on how to navigate issues like bullying, relationships and frenemies

Taking place at North Sydney PCYC (the police youth club) it's a safe environment for her to challenge herself and meet other like minded kids in her community to continue the adventures with.

Hosted by the awesome, professional team Get Fit Boxing.

Schedule Sunday 7th October 2018

11am - 11:45am: Kid’s “campfireside" chat around the theme of 'Positive Peer Relationships’

MissAdventure Surfs (SOLD OUT)

THEME: Coping with Anxiety and Changing Environments

Introduce your MissAdventurer to surfing.

When I (Caroline) found surfing it was like finding another part of my soul I never knew I had. It's that good. They say only a surfer knows the feeling and it's true - Surfing is a sport which is powerful beyond measure, not to mention healthy, freeing and challenging.

For this MissAdventure Morning, the girls will spend part of their time learning basic surfing skills, from reading the ocean and conditions, to pop up techniques on the sand, before jumping in the waves and learning to pop up and ride along.

Drawing from their surf, the girls will then engage in the 'fire side chat' element key to all MissAdventure Mornings. This conversation for this session will revolve around coping with anxiety & changing environments.

Meanwhile parents are invited to partake in their own facilitated conversation around 'How to Raise Brave Girls and in this MissAdventure Morning, we’ll be addressing the changing environment around ‘Social Media’ as well as why kids today feel so anxious. They’ll also be expected to jump in the waves too and take part in some of the active adventure components.

Taking place on the beach, it's important to realise that this adventure is somewhat weather dependent. We will be watching the forecast and wave conditions like hawks. Assume it is going ahead unless we explicitly tell you it isn't. In the unlikely event that it is cancelled, the event will be rescheduled to take place on the 7th October - keep your diary free)

Supported by the awesome, female-led team at Chix Surf School
